Give a Meal, Teach a Skill:

The Gift That Lasts a Lifetime

This Christmas at Soul Kitchen Chester, we’re going beyond meals. With every donation, you’re not just helping us feed the homeless and/or those in temporary accommodation on a one off basis — you’re helping them learn the skills to cook for themselves. Through our Soul in a Bowl sessions, we’re giving people the tools they need to sustain themselves long after Christmas has passed.

Help us provide the gift of independence this Christmas. Your support will help fund both a Christmas meal plus our regular Soul in a Bowl sessions, allowing us to make a deeper, lasting impact on the lives of those in need.

Together, let’s give the gift of self-sufficiency… this Christmas and beyond.

How we’re making a difference – inspiring culinary aspirations

Empowering Through Food: A Journey from Soul in a Bowl to College

Two attendees from our Soul in a Bowl sessions have embarked on an exciting new chapter in their lives, enrolling in a Catering course at West Cheshire College. These individuals, one from our Ellesmere Port group and another from our Chester group, rediscovered their passion for food and cooking during our sessions.

Through the supportive and encouraging environment at Soul Kitchen, they not only rekindled their love for the culinary arts but also gained the confidence to pursue formal education. In September, both began their journey at college, motivated to turn their passion into a career. This is a wonderful testament to the power of community, food, and self-belief.

One of those attendees who was inspired to return to education after attending cookery sessions at Soul in a Bowl is Kyle.

Kyle said he “got his spark back” after attending the sessions and this subsequently led to him returning to college after more than a decade.

He said: “Since I have been coming to Soul in a Bowl, I got my spark back to get me back into the kitchen, which then led to me going back to college to study after 10+ years.

“If it wasn’t for the support from the people at Soul Kitchen’s Soul in a Bowl, I don’t know where I would be right now.”

Helen Anthony from Soul in a Bowl said: “The Soul in a Bowl team build relationships with attendees through conversation, understanding, and respect.

“This leads to a better understanding of each individual and how support can best be directed to move people forward positively.”

This Christmas, Soul Kitchen Chester invites you to make a meaningful difference by giving more than just a one-off meal. Together, we can provide those who are homeless with not only warmth and nourishment for today but also the skills they need for a better tomorrow.

PS – Would you consider making a Regular Gift to support our work throughout the year.

A Regular Gift is a donation of a set amount at regular intervals for example weekly, monthly or annually. Knowing that we have a regular source of income means that we can plan and put new projects into place as the need arises. Even a small donation on a regular basis can make a big difference in helping us plan for the future.

If you would like more information about making a regular gift and how you can help us create a positive future for those experiencing homelessness and hardship, then please get in touch: soulkitchenchester@yahoo.com
